The Steam Ship President - 1840BoxwoodLane.com
This View of the Steam Ship President - published in 1840 by Ackerman & Co, London. Hand colored engraving after the painting by William Knell. Beautifully framed and matted engraving of the SS President, the largest passenger ship in the world when she was commissioned in 1840. Unfortunately, she was lost at sea with all 136 on board in March of 1841. As a result of this tragedy, the owner, The British and American Steam Navigation Company, collapsed. The SS President remained the largest passenger ship until 1845.
This is a great historical item that would look perfect in a room with a nautical decor.
Please note that this item does not qualify for our free shipping offer due to its size.
- Overall size is about 35" x 28.5". The visible portion of the engraving measures about 25" x 18".
- Comes with a wood frame with a black finish.
- Part of our Estate Collection and in very good vintage condition. There is minor foxing or spotting, as is typical for prints of this age, but it's not extensive and doesn't detract from the overall appearance. We could not find any tears or issues with the print paper. Note that we did not take the item out of the frame to inspect the print under the matting. The wood frame is also in very good condition. There are very minor scratches on the frame, but overall, a very nice piece!
