Turkish Soap BoxBoxwoodLane.com
Very unique item! Thanks to a viewer, we finally figured out what this is. It's a Turkish Soap Box! She told us that traditionally, the Turkish people go to public bath houses, or steam baths, called "hammams". The soap box is used to carry one's soap, loofah and kese (exfoliating) mitt to and from the bath house.
There are holes in the bottom of this piece so the wet items can drain. It appears to be made of a treated copper. Very nice patterns cover it, including what appears to be a dragon or serpent on the front. The original owner had taken trips to Turkey and had brought this item back from one of these trips.
- Measures almost 8" wide x 5" tall.
- Part of our Estate Collection and in very good vintage condition. The finish appears worn in many areas, which really just adds to the attractiveness of this special piece.
