Rare Quirolo Steroscope - 1866Quirolo
Rare Antonio Quirolo wood stereoscope or stereo viewer - patent date of 1866. This is the earlier version that was made prior to the folding handle that came in the 1870s. Comes with 60 stereoscope cards that have various scenes, including railroad and mining scenes, landscapes, buildings, Central Park, etc. Some of the cards have been dated and are in the 1860s and 1870s. Many cards have handwriting on the back to give brief descriptions of the photo content. Excellent opportunity to own a rare piece, and a great gift idea for the collector. As always, please inspect photos to help assess condition and contact us if additional information is desired.
- Measures about 11.5" long x 7" wide.
- Part of our Estate Collection and in very good vintage condition. It does have some signs of age, including what may have been a repair made to the cross-bar, but it's hard to tell for sure (please see close-up photo). The lenses were hand-made and do have some minor chipping/scratching on some of the edges (please see photos), but nothing considerable that detracts from use or appearance. It also appears that the screws used to attach the bottom brass handle for the cross-bar are not original to the piece. The finish is commensurate with age with minor scratches.
