Turkish Qalamdan Divit or Scribe's box and inkwell - circa late 1800s. Ottoman Empire piece. These would contain a reed pen and ink so that they could easily be carried by scribes that served both merchants and government officials throughout the region. This piece has beautiful detail and the symbol created by the Ottoman empire of a star inside of a crescent moon - also adopted later by Islam as a whole. Really a unique and beautiful piece. The lids are hinged and function correctly.
- Measures just over 8" long.
- Made of brass or bronze.
- Part of our Estate Collection and in very good vintage condition. There are very minor dents from age and previous use. The metal has aged and has a natural patina. The two lids are hinged and functional. There is a small clasp on the inkwell that is also functional. Inside the inkwell is aged and has a little rust from previous use.
