Large Moriage Satsuma VaseBoxwoodLane.com
Large Japanese Moriage Satsuma Dragon vase. Based on research and comparables, this appears to date back to the Meiji period (1868 - 1912), although there are no maker's marks on this piece. Beautiful dragon pattern on one side, with heavy gold and white raised enamel patterns covering the vase, all on a cobalt blue and cream colored base, accented with pink hues. As is typical with Satsuma, the base is crackled or crazed.
- Measures about 18" tall.
- Part of our Estate Collection and in very good vintage condition. We could not find any chips, or repairs on this piece. There is one small shallow crack on the underside that appears to be a production defect and not the result of damage (please see left edge of vase in the last photo). As already mentioned, there is crazing covering the vase, as is typical with Satsuma, and by design. There is some fading and minor color rubbing, especially on the gold accent areas.
