Indenture Document - 1698BoxwoodLane.com
Framed indenture document dated 1698 between Mary Flowers of Buckland, in Hertfordshire, England, and John Hoy of Royston, Hertford, England. It appears to be a contract for property owned by Mary Flowers. From what we can see from the document, Mary Flowers had received ownership after her husband, Henry (a.k.a. Henrici) Flowers, passed away and then she later sold the property to John Hoy. The document indicates that the will of Henry Flowers was probated in the Prerogative Court of the Archbishop of Canterbury with the result of Mary getting her full inheritance from Henry. The document is made of vellum, as was typical during this time. It has the original wax seal as well as the English 6 pence stamp. There is a signature from Mary Flowers on the front and other signatures on the reverse (please see photos). This is an excellent piece for the collector, or for a law office, or even for the sophisticated man cave!
- The document size is about 23.25" x 18.25".
- The overall frame size is 32.75" x 27.75".
- Handwritten on vellum.
- Document is framed and under glass.
Part of our Estate Collection and in very good condition, especially for its age. The document, like most other Indenture Documents, was folded, so there are signs of wear on the creases, including a small hole on one of the folded corners. The ink has faded somewhat from age and there are minor tears, but nothing significant. There are also a few spots on the reverse with adhesive from a previous framing - please see photos.
