English Prayer BenchBoxwoodLane.com
Antique oak English prayer or kneeler bench. This special piece was presented to Reverend George Mallows Youngman of Greenwich, England back in 1919. He was a well respected man who had contributed to the Oxford Vulgate (published in 1882), working along with John Wordsworth. Considering the dates, we believe this bench was gifted at his retirement or in tribute to his qualities as a priest and theological scholar, given a few years prior to his death (1922). It still has the metal plaque which references the gift (please see photo).
Due to the size and weight of this piece, it does NOT qualify for our free shipping offer. Please contact us to get a shipping quote to your area (email@example.com). Just give us the delivery zip code and we can send you back a shipping quote. Note that the cost of shipping an item of this size can be costly, potentially a few hundred dollars. But given how special this item is, well worth it!
- Measures about 30" tall, 22" wide, and 25.25" deep.
- Made in England.
- Part of our Estate Collection and in very good vintage condition. It does have minor scratches and dents in the wood, as would be expected from a piece of this age. The cross portion is attached, but feels loose. Otherwise, we couldn't find any pieces that were broken off or any significant damage. Very nice item that has an interesting past.
