Emile de Cauwer PaintingBoxwoodLane.com
An original Emile de Cauwer oil painting on panel with frame. Circa 1860. Beautiful view of the interior of a cathedral, possibly in Belgium. Emile de Cauwer was born in Belgium in 1828 and died in 1873. Most of his works are dated between 1855 and 1865. This piece shows great detail and wonderful light contrasts, demonstrating the preciseness this artist was known for. On the back of the panel there is a paper with faded writing and a wax seal. Although the writing is now illegible, it typically contained information on the artist and the subject matter of the piece. There is also a metal plaque with the name of the artist on the frame. Really an extraordinary painting that would be the highlight of any private or public collection. This painting is signed by the artist (hard to see the signature, but please view the last photo).
- The painting measures about 30" x 25".
- Part of our Estate Collection and in excellent condition for its age. There are a few areas where the paint from the frame has adhered to the painting. We have not attempted to remove any of this, or to clean it in any way. Please see photos to inspect and let us know if any additional information is desired.
