Coalport China Plates - 1820sCoalport
Item ID: Coalport China Plates - 1820s
Beautiful set of 6 Coalport porcelain plates made in the 1820s - 1830s. Three of the set have the mark on the bottom of 'Coalport (Improved) Feltspar Porcelain.' Coalport used this 'Improved' mark circa 1825. One of the plates has the Coalport mark, but does not have the 'Improved' designation. All of these four plates have the Society of Arts marks, which dates them from the 1820s - 1830s. Two of the 6 plates do not have any maker's marks at all, but appear to be of the same make with the same hand-painted design. All are quite beautiful with double-barred scrolls and festoons in low relief against a sky-blue background which surround a floral motif in the center primarily of pink, blue, green, and yellow, with each plate being slightly different and unique.
- Each plate measures about 9.25" in diameter.
- Part of our Estate Collection and in very good condition for age, but they do have varying levels of crazing and scratches, as one might expect from items this old. One of the plates that has the "Improved" designation had been cracked, and then professionally repaired (see photo). Minor staining and the gold edging has worn off on some areas. Overall a very nice antique set that would be a wonderful addition for a collector of fine antique porcelain.
