Axel Haig Etching - 1911BoxwoodLane.com
Framed etching by the Swedish artist Axel H. Haig (1835 - 1921). Pencil signed by the artist. Published in London, England in 1911. The title of the etching is "St. Marks, Venice" and is inscribed on a small brass plaque attached to the frame. The gold frame perfectly complements the beauty of the etching. The glass is the original wavy glass. We believe the frame and glass are original to the piece. The matting is new.
Note that this is an original antique etching and not a modern reproduction or reprint.
Note that due to its size, this item does not qualify for our Free Shipping offer.
- The overall size is about 34" x 29.25". The size of the exposed portion of the etching (the inside border of the matting) measures about 23.25" x 18.5".
- Part of our Estate Collection and in very good vintage condition. The etching is in very nice shape, although the paper has yellowed somewhat from age (please see 2nd photo for a better representation of paper color). We found maybe a couple of spots, or evidence of foxing, on the paper, but nothing significant at all. The frame shows some minor cracking of the gesso, but again, nothing significant. The cracking that's there might even be more by design than a defect. It does add a nice antique look to the frame.
